The Tower of the Winds was designed to accentuate and direct the currents of the wind. The structure was very open and spiraled skyward with fluid grace. Walkways split off from the main tower and formed launch platforms where designs could be proven. Under one section of rubble (make concealed doors checks) a spiral stair leading into the ground can be found. The stairs descend only about 10' and end in a bare, circular study. Detailed wall carvings portray various inventionsΓÇöarrows, sails, kites, large spheres carrying small baskets beneath them (balloons), men floating under large sheets of cloth (parachutes), screw shaped devices (DaVinci), and sleek bird shaped vessels (gliders). But the most fascinating relief of all is a large ship, resembling an ocean faring vessel, but outfitted with sails not only on its deck but also on its sides. And it is sailing the sky!
